Description of the attraction

The complex of buildings in the eclectic style with elements of Art Nouveau at the intersection of Bolshaya Kazachya and Astrakhanskaya Streets was built in 1909 according to the project of Yu. N. Terlikov for the Office of City Lighting and Trams.

On the basis of the horse-drawn railway in 1908, the Belgian JSC "Mutual Company of Trams" established a tram management. By the time the first tram lines were launched, the first diesel power plant was built on the territory of the depot, providing electricity not only to trams and streets with houses, but also to the city's enterprises, which operated until the SarGRES was put into operation (1930). Before the revolution, the tram fleet consisted of 69 motor cars, 18 trailers and 28 platforms for transporting goods, moving along nine tram lines on the main streets of Saratov.

In 1918, the building and the entire tramway were nationalized, expelling the Belgians from the country, as a result of which, by 1919, it fell into decay due to ineffective management. In 1921, tram services resumed, but the development of the structure and effective functioning took place in the post-war years.

At the end of the twentieth century, the Saratov electric transport was reorganized into the MUPP "Saratovgorelectrotrans", which has three tram and two trolleybus depots and additional 24 electric traction substations.

Currently, in a beautiful building of the early twentieth century - the first tram fleet - the administration service of "Saratovgorelectrotrans" is located, as well as some repair departments.
