Description of the attraction
The Feodosia Museum of Antiquities is one of the oldest museums not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe. Its founder was S. M. Bronevsky, according to whose project the museum was founded by the Russian Emperor Alexander I on November 8, 1810. And on May 13, 1811, the opening of the museum took place.
The main part of the exposition were ancient objects, monuments found in the ruins of medieval Kafa. Also on display are Hellenistic marble lions, relief slabs with a griffin and other exhibits. Over time, the museum was replenished with various exhibits found during excavations in Feodosia.
The museum consists of several rooms. The hall of antiquity is represented by objects found during excavations on the territory of the Crimea. The exhibits of the Middle Ages are finds from the Khazar, Hunnic, and also Polovtsian burials of the ancient Crimea. The expositions also paid great attention to the study of the history of Kafa. An important place in the Feodosia Museum of Antiquities is also occupied by the exhibits in the hall reserved for items from the times of the Great Patriotic War. Authentic documents are presented that tell about the course of the Kerch-Feodosiya landing operation, carried out in December 1941 - January 1942, as well as interesting documents that tell about the underground and partisan movement in the southeast of Crimea during the period of Nazi occupation and liberation of Feodosia in 1944. A special place is occupied by the exhibition "The Nature of Karadag", which acquaints visitors with the interesting world of the wildlife of the Crimea.
