Description of the attraction

The Triple Bridge, located in the very center of Ljubljana, is considered one of the most beautiful places and the main symbols of the capital of Slovenia.

Since ancient times, people have settled near rivers or other bodies of water. So the city of Ljubljana is located on both banks of the Ljubljanica River. Therefore, the number of bridges in it has always been impressive. And today each bridge has its own name, its own history, often extraordinary, its own traditions or signs. The undisputed leader in beauty is the Triple Bridge, which spreads like a fan across the river. Another name for the bridge is Bolnichny, but Triple is more consistent with the grandeur of the structure.

There have been wooden bridges in its place since medieval times. Only the central bridge was built of stone in 1842. This 19th century historical monument, the first stone bridge, was designed by the Italian architect Picco.

As the population grew and the city developed, so did the load on the bridges. The city authorities considered many options for their replacement. Jože Plechik's project turned out to be the most original. It provided for the preservation of the central bridge, to which two side ones were being completed. They only dismantled the decorative cast-iron fences, preserving the integrity of the historical appearance. The two side bridges were made less wide to emphasize the main one. On all three, white balustrades were installed in a single ensemble, reminiscent of the motives of Venice.

Together, they create an elegant ensemble that does not just connect the transport routes of the right and left banks of the Ljubljanica. They provide a graceful passage to the Old Town, connect the City Square with the Preseren Square, where the most beautiful Franciscan Church of the Annunciation stands. And they are simply the most beautiful feature of the city's architecture.

During the XX century, the Triple Bridge regularly performed its duties to ensure the movement of trams and buses. Currently, not every vehicle is allowed to travel through the central part. And the side ones have become completely pedestrian zones. On the benches installed there, you can take a break from walking and admire the harmonious architectural creation - the Triple Bridge.
