Description of the attraction

The Parish Church of the Sagrada Familia is one of the main attractions of the tiny town of Semmering, known as a ski resort. The temple is located on a certain elevation on the main city street - Hochstrasse. It is located just 400 meters from the city's main train station.

The construction of the church began in 1894, with the construction being partially financed by the famous prince of Liechtenstein, Johann II, who patronized the arts and sciences. The building of the church is made in the popular at that time pseudo-Romanesque style, but its external appearance also contains elements of neo-Gothic, including pilasters, consoles and elaborate carved arcades. The steep sloping roof, painted green, was completed already in 1905, and the main facade was completed only in 1908. At the same time, the side aisles were added.

The Church of the Sagrada Familia received its own parish in 1934. A couple of years later, unscheduled work on the expansion of the building took place, during which the general appearance of the temple did not change. At the same time, an organ appeared in the church, which is still operating today. But the bell tower was built a little later - in 1968, while it is not connected to the main building of the temple and is located somewhat further from it.

The interior of the church is very modest - the walls are painted in a simple white color. However, of particular interest are the stained-glass windows located in the altar of the temple. The central window depicts the Holy Family, while the two side windows are dedicated to various saints, including Francis of Assisi, Anthony of Padua and John the Baptist.

It is worth noting that the Church of the Sagrada Familia is located on the main street of Semmering, connecting two other striking sights of this city - two luxurious old hotels built in the second half of the 19th century.
