Description of the attraction
Weiner Street in Yekaterinburg is one of the oldest and one of the few pedestrianized streets in the city. Local residents proudly call it Arbat. The street is located in the Central residential area between Kuibyshev (formerly Sibirskiy Prospekt) and Anton Valek (formerly Bolshaya Syezzhaya) streets, stretching from north to south. At the same time, the street entered two districts at once - Leninsky and Verkh-Isetsky.
The pedestrian part of Weiner Street starts from Lenin Avenue and stretches almost to Kuibyshev Street. Under the streets of Radishchev and Malysheva, for convenience, underground passages were arranged. The total length of the street is about one and a half kilometers, with 970 meters of the pedestrian part.
The street received its modern name in 1919. It was named after the Bolshevik L. Weiner, who died in the Civil War. And before the revolutionary times, the street was called Assumption, which arose from the Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God. The temple in the Novo-Tikhvin monastery was very clearly visible from this street. Today, only the famous shopping center "Uspensky", located nearby, reminds of the former name of the street.
In the XIX century. Weiner's street has become a shopping street. Many shops and shops appeared here. The most famous were the shops of Sytin, Izhboldin, the Agafurov brothers and others. The trade value of Vayner Street has survived to this day. Walking along the street, in the eyes just dazzles from the numerous signs of shops.
In addition to shops on the street, you can see a huge number of architectural monuments: the former building of the Russian-Asian Bank, the buildings of the printing house "Granit", "Passage", the houses of E. Khrebtova, E. Telegin, N. Lazarev, Kosminykh, Blinov and Vtorov.
However, most of all, the attention of residents and guests of Yekaterinburg is attracted by cast-iron sculptures located in different parts of the street. These are the sculptures "Lovers", "Friends", a peddler of the period of the Russian Empire, a funny pot-bellied banker in a top hat, a bicycle inventor Artamonov, as well as a sculpture "Time Spiral" fountain and even monuments to Michael Jackson and Gene Bukin. Each mini-monument has its own legend. Thanks to all this, Vayner Street has become such a popular place in Yekaterinburg.
