Description of the attraction
In 1913, near the city of Simbirsk (now Ulyanovsk), a grandiose for that time construction of a railway bridge across the Volga River began. About four thousand of the best specialists in bridge builders and workers were thrown into the construction of a structure two miles apart, together with overpasses. Circumstances that compel construction to start practically from scratch: in 1914 - a fire that brought down the third farm and damaged the first and second, the damage from the fire, estimated by experts at two million rubles, in 1915 the Simbirskaya Mountain landslide occurred.
The grand opening of the greatest bridge in Europe took place on October 5, 1916, and a wooden memorial plaque at the entrance portal at first said that the bridge was called "Nikolaevsky", but in 1917 it was renamed "Freedom Bridge".
With the opening of the Kuibyshev reservoir in 1958, the reconstruction of the bridge was required, and an additional queue was built in two directions. In 1983, after the shipwreck of the passenger ship "Alexander Suvorov", whose captain confused numerous spans, the section of the bridge had to be repaired again, and from 2003 to 2008 the pre-revolutionary bridge was overhauled.
And now the Imperial Bridge looks very impressive both during the day, being in a picturesque place, and with night illumination in the dark.
