Once upon a time, a circus often passed through the streets of the district town in the Kazakh steppe, for the performances of which all residents of Karaganda gathered. There were few other entertainments here, and the performances of each visiting artist were always popular. The idea of creating a zoo in Karaganda was born immediately after the Great Patriotic War, and by 1956 its territory already looked very impressive.

This is how the full name of the favorite vacation spot of young and adult townspeople who are interested in animals and nature sounds. Among the guests of the zoo are rare and endangered animals of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, including such famous ones as the Przewalski's horse and kulan.
Bison and an elephant look exotic for these places, but local children are happy to get acquainted with the usual argali and gazelles.

The organizers and employees of the Karaganda Zoo are doing a lot of educational work and organize numerous events dedicated to the protection of fauna and the promotion of biological knowledge. The most favorite holidays, which are usually celebrated here with visitors, are Bird Day, the opening and closing of the summer season, charity events and even birthdays of the inhabitants of the park.
About 240 species of animals are represented today in the Karaganda Zoo, and its status as a specially protected natural area of local importance allowed the site to become a full member of the Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The exact address of the zoo in Karaganda is st. Ermekova, 111. The easiest way to get there is by bus 146 of the route to the stop "Abai" or by minibus taxi number 30 to the stop "Novonizhnyaya".
Useful information
The opening hours of the zoo do not change depending on the season or day of the week. It opens at 08.00 and receives visitors until 18.30 daily. Tickets can be purchased until 17.30.
Price of entrance tickets and additional services:
- Children (from 6 to 14 years old) - 100 tenge.
- Adult - 300 tenge.
- Children under 6 years old enjoy free access to the zoo.
- Riding a pony, donkey, horse or camel - 200 tenge.
- Individual excursions - 100 tenge.
- Group - from 6 or more people - 50 tenge from each.
Photos in the zoo are allowed without restrictions.

The zoo staff provides consultations for city residents on the maintenance of decorative and exotic animals. The cost of the service is from 100 to 200 tenge, depending on the content of the consultation.
