The rivers of Norway, due to the special geographical position of the country, have a number of peculiarities. Basically, these are typical mountain rivers flowing through deep narrow valleys.
Glomma river
Geographically, the river runs through the lands of eastern Norway and is the longest in the whole country - 604 kilometers. The source of the river is Lake Eursund (Røros market town) in Sør-Trøndelag county. The place of confluence is the waters of the Oslofjord (near the city of Fredrikstad).
When passing through the Estfold county, the river splits into two channels. The eastern one goes through Sarpsborg (here is the most powerful Northern European waterfall - Sarpsfossen). The western channel transits lakes Isnesfjorden and Visterflu - Ogordselva.
Patsojoki river
Patsjoki passes through the territory of three states - Finland, Russia and Norway. The total length of the river channel is 117 kilometers. The source is Lake Inarijärvi. The mouth is the waters of the Varanger Fjord (Barents Sea). The river is fed by snow.
On its way, Patsojoki passes through several lakes, forming a large valley. The largest tributary of the river is the Nautsijoki.
The riverbed serves as a natural border between Norway and Russia. The waters of the Patsojoki are rich in salmon and fishing is allowed here, but care must be taken not to accidentally cross the state border.
Tanaelv river
The river bed runs along the border of two countries - Norway and Finland. The total length of Tanaelv is 348 kilometers. And it is the fifth longest river in the country. The source of the river is the confluence of two rivers - Anaryokka and Karasjokka (Inaryoki). This place is located about twelve kilometers from the town of Karasjok.
The river is popular with anglers, as there are many large salmon. For example, in 1929, a large Atlantic salmon weighing 36 kilograms was caught in the river. In connection with large-scale climate changes, the so-called "Russian salmon" began to occur in the waters of the river.
The river ends its way, flowing into the waters of the Tanafjord.
Otra river
Otra is ranked eighth in the list of Norwegian rivers, since the total length of the channel is only 245 kilometers. The source of the river is the Setesdalechina mountains (Lake Breidvatn). After that, Otra goes down to Kristiansand, and after that it flows into the waters of the Skagerrak Strait.
There are a lot of salmon in the waters of the river.
