For the most part, Peru's rivers belong to the basin of the largest river in the world - the Amazon.
Javari river
Zhavari is one of the rivers located in the central part of South America. Geographically, the river bed belongs to two countries - Peru and Brazil. The total length of the channel is 1,056 kilometers. The Javari passes through the northwestern part of Brazil and is the right tributary of the Amazon.
The source of the river is on the slopes of the Peruvian Andes (La Montagna). Then it descends from the mountains and for the rest of the current is the natural border between Brazil and Peru.
The river is navigable for 500 kilometers up from the mouth. During the rainy season, which lasts from January to May, the length of the navigable section increases.
Girua River
Girouis is one of the many right tributaries of the Amazon. The total length of the river is 3280 kilometers. The source is the town of La Montia (Peru), located in the foothills of the Peruvian Andes.
The river is navigable for 1,823 kilometers from its confluence (to the territory of the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul). The river basin is inhabited, but mainly in the middle course of the river.
Kurarai river
Curarai is one of the South American rivers located on the territory of two countries - Ecuador and Peru. It is a right tributary of the Napo River. The source of the river is the eastern foothills of the Andes.
The total length of the channel is 800 kilometers. And it passes through the territory of Pastas (province of Ecuador) and Loreto (region of Peru). 414 kilometers pass through the territory of Peru. Kurarai is deep throughout the year, but navigable only in the lower reaches. The river bed passes through sparsely populated areas. Mainly Indian peoples - Waorani and Quechua - live on the banks of the river.
Madre de Dios river
Madre de Dios passes through the territory of two countries - Peru and Bolivia - and belongs to the Amazon basin. The total length of the river bed is 640 kilometers.
The source of the river is in the Peruvian Andes.
Madre de Dios is one of the most important waterways located in the upper Amazon. On the banks of the river there is a large port city - Puerto Maldonado. After him, the river is navigable.
The river valley is actively used for growing mangoes. In addition, gold is mined here, as well as logging on an industrial scale. There are several protected natural areas on the banks of the river.
Mantaro river
The river bed is entirely in Peru and has a length of 724 kilometers. The Mantaro is a branch of the Apurimaca River. Geographically passes through the lands of the following provinces: Junin; Yauli; Hauka; Concepcion; Huancayo.
