The streets of Vitebsk are a mixture of antiquity and modernity. There are many ancient buildings in the city. Ancient streets run down the hills that form the base of the city. There are seven hundred streets, lanes and avenues in Vitebsk. Their total length is 325 km. Only 7 streets are over 3 km long.

Central highways and streets

The central Lenin street is the main thoroughfare. It has all the features of the main city artery. This is a well-groomed and spacious street that crosses the settlement from the Smolensk market to Victory Square. There are numerous restaurants, shops, boutiques and cafes in this place. Lenin Street was renamed several times. The oldest part of it was formed in the 14th century, and the youngest - in the 19th century.

In the central part of the old town there is a small but very picturesque Pushkin street. It was renovated in 2011 when the pavement was covered with granite tiles and fountains were installed. The street is now pedestrianized. Tolstoy Street is located in the historical part of Vitebsk. It starts near Suvorov Street and continues to Voskresenskaya Square. The length of the street is 200 m.

The most beautiful Victory Square is considered the property of the city. It is ranked among the largest European squares. This square has a unique architectural style and interesting landscapes. Its unprecedented scale and beauty have made it the center of the city and a venue for cultural events. The decoration of the square is the Three Bayonets memorial.

The face of Vitebsk is the Railway Station Square, rebuilt in 1866. It is decorated with a backlit fountain, picturesque lawns and flower beds.

Where are the ancient buildings

The oldest street in the city is Zamkovaya, located on the border of the Oktyabrsky and Zheleznodorozhny districts. Buildings in this place were formed in the 11th century.

Vitebsk streets are distinguished by their varied architecture. The list of the main ones includes Yanka Kupala Street, where beautiful mansions rebuilt in the 19th century are located.
