Modern Hellas is becoming more and more popular with millions of tourists from Eastern European countries. There are all conditions for a good rest, treatment and shopping here. And a taxi in Greece is able to take care of the almost instant delivery of the country's guests to the right place.
Are there any differences?
Meters for Greek taxis are common practice. In order to use this type of transport, you can:
- order through a phone call;
- as usual, in Russian, to vote on the road;
- find "taxi piasta", which means "taxi stand".
Greek taxi drivers are not much different from their counterparts in other countries of the world. A rare driver will refuse the opportunity to earn money on a tourist who does not know local rules and prices.
The same feature applies to travel from the airport, since a guest of the country, who has just arrived, is absolutely not guided by prices. Sometimes a thirty minute drive from the airport to the city center can cost 40 EUR. According to the drivers, the cost of the trip includes not only the mileage, but also the toll, luggage cost, boarding fee and VAT.
The second negative feature (not only of Greek taxi drivers) is the ability to drive a guest in a circle or on a difficult route in order to increase the travel time and mileage, respectively, to earn more.

Public policy
Knowing that the work of local taxi drivers caused a lot of criticism from the guests of Greece, which reduced the tourist image, the country's authorities decided to establish the same tariffs for basic services for all taxi services. Now the tourist can roughly navigate where, how much and for what the taxi driver will take money from him. In addition to mileage, boarding and luggage, it is worth preparing money for additional luggage.
In general, tourists note that the fare on local taxis is relatively low, especially in comparison with colleagues from other Western European countries.
There are special services that monitor the work of taxis and punish unscrupulous Greek drivers. Any tourist, upon discovering any injustice, for example, overstating the tariff or "winding" kilometers, always has the opportunity to write down the car number and complain to the tourist police, which tries to track cases of unfair treatment of guests in Greece.
