The capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, once a traditional eastern city, at the beginning of the 20th century began to be called the "Paris of the East". Such a capital of the country was made not by bazaars and caravanserais, but by the "black gold" of oil. Of course, Baku has retained its oriental flavor and offers its guests many interesting places.

Palace of the Shirvanshahs

The palace complex is located in the Old Town at the highest point. The unique structure, in addition to 52 rooms located in the main building, includes a bathhouse, a mosque, a tomb, a tomb and its own reservoir.

The construction of the main part of the palace was completed in the 15th century. Almost nothing is left of the former luxury and grandeur of the interiors. The building is of interest solely for its appearance.

Maiden's Tower

It is a symbol not only of the Old City, but also of the capital. The construction of the Maiden Tower was completed before the XII century, and it was part of the fortress that surrounded Baku in the Middle Ages. Later, she assumed the duties of a lighthouse (this mission fell on the era of the Russian Empire), but almost before the revolution itself, she lost this status.

The observation deck, located at its top, allows you to admire the panorama of Baku. One of the entrances to the Old Town is located next to the tower.

Fire Towers

They are visible from almost everywhere. But the towers are especially beautiful at night, when they are not just illuminated, but sparkle with all the colors of the Azerbaijani flag. The construction of the structure was started back in 2007, and the completion was planned by 2012. But the work continues to this day.

Winter boulevard

The boulevard is a continuation of the city park named after Heydar Aliyev. The authorities decided to lengthen the street back in 1980, but funds to finance the project were received only in 2009.

The boulevard is a great place to walk. There are roller tracks and fountains. The houses along the street are faced with light beige stone. In general, the boulevard is practically no different from the Baku embankment. The only "not" - there are no restaurants and cafes here yet.

Icherisheher

The old city, this is how the translation sounds literally, has perfectly survived to this day, preserved in its original form. This is the only place in the capital where you will get the opportunity to admire the classical oriental architecture of the Middle Ages.

Local pearls are the Maiden Tower and the palace complex of the Shirvanshahs. In addition, on the territory of the Old City, you can admire 15 mosques, and then go for a walk along the narrow streets.
