Description of the attraction
In Kaliningrad, in the "Northern Mountain" region, there is a temple of St. Gerasim of Boldinsky, built in 2006 at the initiative of the youth group of the Exaltation of the Cross Monastery. The consecration of the magnificent church by Metropolitan Kirill took place in August 2006.
The history of the temple began in 1993, after an initiative group of youth made a pilgrimage to the monasteries of Russia. During a visit to the Gerasimo-Boldinsky monastery in the Smolensk region (Dorogobuzh district), the pilgrims were impressed by the life story of St. Gerasim. The Monk Gerasim of Boldinsky (in the world - Gregory) was recognized as a saint for his deeds of prayer against the criminals who plundered his hermit monastery. During his life, the monk founded four monasteries (now they exist): in the Dorogobuzh district (1530), in the city of Vyazma (1553), in the Bryansk forest and near Dorogobuzh.
The Church of Gerasim Boldinsky was built by the efforts and funds of local residents and patrons of the arts. The temple was painted by Ukrainian icon painters from the city of Mukachevo with donations from a local deputy. The land for the temple was also donated by one of the parishioners.
In 2003, Archimandrite Anthony (rector of the Holy Trinity Monastery in Boldinsky) transferred the particles of the relics of the Monk Gerasim, which are now in a skillfully made reliquary. In July 2012, a monument to Gerasim Boldinsky was erected and consecrated in the courtyard of the temple - the work of the Belarusian sculptor Igor Chumakov. The most revered icon in the church is the icon of the Mother of God "Theodorovskaya", brought from Mount Athos.
Nowadays, in the courtyard of the temple there is a playground, a green corner, a Sunday school and a circle for embroidering icons.
