Description of the attraction

The National Natural Science Museum is located in a large 4-storey building in the city of Sofia.

The history of the museum began in 1889, after the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke. The basis of the museum fund at that time was the collection of Prince (in the future - king) Ferdinand: a small collection of butterflies, insects, animals and birds. Gradually, new copies appeared and the collection of the museum grew. Now it includes valuable metals, mineral rocks, minerals, prepared and preserved birds, mammals and amphibians, skeletons of extinct representatives of fauna and flora.

The exposition of the museum is located in 16 halls.

On the ground floor, there is a collection of minerals, which numbers about 1300 items. There is platinum, gold, silver in nuggets and new, recently discovered minerals. The gifts given to Bulgaria by the heads of state of the USSR and the USA - stones brought from the Moon during the first space expeditions - deserve the attention of visitors.

The second floor is dedicated to paleontology and the third to fauna. There are stuffed animals of various birds and animals. Among them, another pride of the museum is the Caroline parrot, which is a species that disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century.

On the fourth floor there is an exposition of plants and insects inhabiting the territory of Bulgaria.

A visit to the museum will bring joy to everyone who is interested in the natural world in general and the nature of Bulgaria in particular.
