Description of the attraction
North Cape is the northernmost point in Europe, 307m high, located on Magerø Island, not far from the small Norwegian port town of Hammerfest. The North Cape is the largest of three granite rock ledges, with small lakes on its flat top in the rocky tundra. The cape serves as the most important coastal landmark for ships. From here, from the observation deck, a magnificent view of the boundless Arctic Ocean opens up against the backdrop of the heavenly flares of the Northern Lights.
The cape got its name in 1533 thanks to the English explorer Richard Chancellor, who was trying to find a northeastern sea route to China.
Inside the mountain is the North Cape Royal Club, in the hall of which a videogram showing the change of seasons is shown on the screen. Those who wish can become members of this Cuba, having received a document with a seal, confirming the fact of visiting the so-called "End of the World".
There is a restaurant and a souvenir shop for tourists. Here you can also see the monument "Children of War", symbolizing creative works about peace and friendship, as well as the pavilion of Thailand, dedicated to the King of Siam, who visited the cape in 1907.
The lovers arrange weddings on the North Cape, getting married in the northernmost chapel of St. Johann in the world.
