Description of the attraction
Ancient dolmens located in the vicinity of the city of Gelendzhik are mysterious man-made structures of antiquity. Dolmens made of stone slabs and huge stones are an excellent object for scientific research by archaeologists and a place of pilgrimage and worship for many modern admirers of esotericism.
The date of construction of dolmens is considered to be the 4th-2nd millennium BC. There are suggestions that dolmens appeared before the Egyptian pyramids.
In the Gelendzhik region, the first dolmens were first discovered in 1818. However, by this time, ancient structures had suffered at the hands of treasure hunters - the vessels were broken, and the bones of the buried themselves were mixed and thrown out. But archaeologists were able to find enough material to conduct scientific research. Historians have found arrowheads, remains of ceramics, flint axes, amber beads, and several human remains in and around the dolmens.
The builders who erected the dolmens of Gelendzhik did not have enough equipment, so they used the simplest mechanisms - wooden rollers, levers, temporary supports, embankments of clay and sand. An interesting fact is that the people who built the dolmens, according to the excavations carried out, lived in poor adobe shacks. But despite this, they were quite serious about the afterlife, which is why they built burial structures designed for millennia.
There are several versions about the purpose of the Gelendzhik dolmens. According to the official version, ancient people erected dolmens to bury only selected representatives of their community in them. Based on another version, the Gelendzhik dolmens are a kind of receivers tuned to the "Information Field of the Universe".
There are about 120 dolmens in the Gelendzhik region. Most of them are located near the Pshada settlement. Ancient dolmens are located on a small hill, thus they are protected from flooding.
