Description of the attraction
The Temple of Our Lady of Fatima is located 4 km from the center of Zakopane. It offers a delightful view of the Giewont mountain and the Tatras. The temple was built in 1992 in gratitude for the saved life of the Holy Father (Pope) John Paul II on May 13, 1981. He believed that it was the Mother of God of Fatima who saved his life during the assassination attempt. Poles are still proud of their famous citizen, honor and cherish the memory of him. The Pope himself visited this temple, one of the most famous in the area.
The Church of Fatima is named after the apparition of Our Lady, which happened on May 13, 1917 in the small town of Fatima in Portugal, when she appeared to three shepherd children and revealed three secrets of future events, two of which are now known.
The stunningly beautiful decoration of the temple, many stained-glass windows, skillfully made altar create a feeling of lightness, airiness, soaring above earthly affairs and worries. The temple is especially dressed up on holidays, when its interior is cleaned with a huge amount of purple-lilac flowers.
Tourists love to walk and take pictures in the vast territory of the park near the temple, admire the park sculptures.
