Description of the attraction
Fortress Marienberg, towering over the city on the other side of the Main River, was an episcopal residence until the beginning of the 18th century, so it was rebuilt several times over the centuries. The Marienkirche church, numerous fortifications and a system of bastions have been preserved. From the walls of the fortress, from the Marienberg mountain, a beautiful view of the Baroque Old Town of Würzburg opens.
Now the Franconian Museum has placed its exposition within the walls of the fortress. Here you can see a rich collection of sculptures by Tillmann Riemenschneider, as well as a variety of exhibits that tell about the turbulent history of Würzburg, its rulers and residents of the city.
