Description of the attraction

The Natural and Environmental Museum of Polotsk is one of the most favorite tourist attractions. The original location of the museum - in a former water tower built in 1953 - already attracts curious views. The museum was opened on September 3, 2005.

The creators of the museum proposed an original concept: the Museum is the Tree of Life. The floors of the exposition are "strung" on the stairs, symbolizing the connection between all life on the planet. As an epigraph to the museum, the words of Yuri Bondarev were chosen: "Environmental consciousness is a staircase that connects the Earth, Heaven and Man into a single union." Climbing the stairs, the visitor, as it were, looks into the collections that are of great importance for Belarus: Belarus - our home - the biodiversity of nature in the Republic of Belarus; A dowry to civilization is the uneasy coexistence of nature and big cities; Protected Areas - a story about how a person tries to preserve nature in certain areas. The fourth level is going under the clear sky. An observation deck from which you can see the city of Polotsk as a whole - a fusion of civilization and nature.

People living in cities visit the museum with great pleasure and interest, which clearly shows the life of animals, insects, fish, plants in their native environment. The museum has a great educational value, explaining to the younger generation how important and difficult it is to preserve wildlife and live in harmony with it. Perhaps, it is the pagan concept of the Tree of Life that explains the relationship of man with living and inanimate nature and his responsibility both to the ancestors who passed on the precious heritage and to the descendants to whom the saved natural wealth is to be passed on.
