Description of the attraction

One of the most magnificent theaters in Denmark is the New Theater, which is located in the central area of Copenhagen - Vesterbo.

The initial design of the building was developed by the famous Danish architect Lorenz Gudme, and the foundation was laid at the beginning of 1907. On August 14, 1907, under the leadership of Ludwig Andersen, the theater project was changed and, on the basis of the laid foundation, the construction of a new theater building began. L. Andersen was the first architect in Denmark to use new technologies in the construction of a building using reinforced concrete slabs.

The new theater is the first theater in Denmark, where a revolving stage, loggias were installed, a shower on each floor, and a reliable fire-prevention system were provided for the actors. The construction area is 12,000 square meters, the auditorium has more than 1,000 seats.

The premiere performance at the New Theater was a comedy by Pierre Burton, starring the famous Danish actors Asta Nielsen and Paul Reumert. Among the many productions were such famous performances as "Jesus Christ Superstar", "The Phantom of the Opera", "The Merry Widow", "Les Miserables", "Beauty and the Beast", "Cats".

In 1990, the theater was closed for reconstruction due to the dilapidated premises. The theater building was restored and modernized for four years. Today, various musicals are staged on the stage of the theater, performances of an international level are staged. In terms of the number of spectators, the New Theater is the most visited theater in Denmark.
