Description of the attraction

The mother-in-law bridge is one of the longest bridges in Odessa, which, moreover, has no intermediate supports. It stretches parallel to the sea and connects Primorsky Boulevard and old Odessa.

The bridge is made of reinforced concrete and would be just another unremarkable construction of the city, if not for the interesting story associated with its construction, or rather with his name. So, a well-known historical fact is that the bridge was built on the initiative of the then secretary of the Odessa Regional Committee of the CPSU, comrade Sinitsa. And he decided to build a bridge in this very place so that it would be more convenient for him to visit his mother-in-law. For the city, this construction had no practical and strategic significance. But for Comrade Sinitsa, who simply adored his mother-in-law's pancakes, it was inconvenient to walk in the evenings across the ring road across the Sabaneev Bridge. So he decided to connect the two boulevards together.

According to another legend, the bridge got its name due to its shape - namely, narrow and long, moreover, the bridge sways during a strong wind - well, just like the tongue of a mother-in-law! - Odessa residents joke.

And if you follow the historical background, the bridge was built in 1968-1969, according to the project of Vladimirskaya and Kirienko. Initially, the bridge was planned in a retro style, but during the construction the decor was removed from it, and it turned out to be modern and in the spirit of the Soviet era.

Today the bridge is a favorite place for lovers. They not only take pictures here and launch pigeons into the sky, but also leave small locks on the bridge, in the hope of a long life together. Most of them are nominal and everyone can find out whose love this or that castle marks. You can also join this tradition, leaving here as a souvenir a lock with your name and the name of this charming city - Odessa.
