Description of the attraction
The Langhua Temple Pagoda, located in the southern region of Shanghai, is a famous landmark in the city. The temple itself is one of the oldest and largest Buddhist temples in Shanghai. The pagoda was built in close proximity to the Lanhua Temple.
It is assumed that the pagoda and temple were built at the same time, in 247 AD. NS. Then, during the war years, they were destroyed together, later they were rebuilt again - just at the same time.
The forty-meter octagonal pagoda consists of 7 tiers and is made of brick and wood. At the corner of each cornice of the pagoda, on all tiers, bells hang, clearly visible in the distance.
Despite the extraordinary beauty of the Shanghai Pagoda, it has been closed to the public for many decades. The employees explain this by the fact that the age of the pagoda is about two thousand years. Only constant restorations and numerous reconstructions make it possible to preserve this ancient structure in a more or less stable state to this day.
The inability to see the inner content of the most ancient temple in China has long been giving it an aura of illusion and a certain mysticism, as a building that seems to exist, but stubbornly hides its appearance from everyone.
However, the appearance of this multi-level majestic building is undoubtedly worthy of both architectural awards and praise! Unusual history, unique nobility of color, intricate tier floors still make the pagoda extremely attractive for tourists from different countries of the world!
The temple itself has four main halls. The most impressive of these is the so-called Great Hall. It is here that the famous gilded Buddha statue is located. The temple library is a repository of antiques and art objects, Buddhist sutras and instruments for various ceremonies.
The modern buildings were built in the 19th century. And the reconstruction of the latter was completed in 1979. During it, the location, which is a distinctive feature of the cultural monuments of the Sun era, has been preserved.
Today, a road separates the temple and the pagoda. A large park from the west adjoins the fence of the temple. The peach orchard belonging to the monastery is also famous among tourists. In spring, when peonies and peach trees bloom among the picturesque stones, an incredible number of tourists flock here, eager to see this stunning harmony of stone and flowers.
