Description of the attraction
The Kuressaare Town Hall was erected in the years 1654-1670. The building was built on the initiative of the Swedish Count Magnus Gabriel de la Guardia. The town hall is made in the baroque style of the northern countries, which is characterized by simple and austere forms, but at the same time gives the impression of majesty and solidity. The decoration of the town hall is a sculptural portal with the date "1670". The largest ceiling painting in Estonia is located here and adorns the second floor of the Town Hall.
The building is thoroughly imbued with the spirit of the Middle Ages, which was preserved thanks to the restorations. In its original form, the building was restored in the 1970s.
Today, the town hall houses a gallery and a tourist office. And you can have a snack, plunging into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, here, having dined in the restaurant, which occupies the basement of the town hall.
