Description of the attraction
The building of the Velikosorochinsk Teachers' Seminary was built in 1905. In order to build a new building, the zemstvo allocated 4 hectares of land, and another 3 hectares were donated by the nobleman Grigory Petrovich Paliy. And then the long-term fundraising began. The zemstvo sent letters to the province, to the clergy. The public responded. For two and a half years, a three-story building of the male teachers' seminary was built, which became the first educational institution in the Poltava region that trained teachers. On September 1, 1905, training began in the new building. Much credit for such a speedy construction belonged to the first director of the seminary, F. D. Nikolaychik, who arrived in Sorochintsy in 1903 and lived until the completion of the construction of the new institution in the family of the Zemsky teacher Tatarinov.
A temple was opened at the seminary. On November 11, 1906, the consecration of the building and the temple took place. The Most Holy John of Poltava arrived for the consecration with his retinue, which was solemnly announced by the bells in all five Great Sorochin churches. Vladyka was greeted by a gathering of many thousands in front of the seminary, after which in the new church of the seminary he met with the director F. D. Nikolaychik and educators.
In the 22nd year of the 20th century, the seminary was renamed into pedagogical courses, later - into a pedagogical technical school, and then - into a pedagogical school. Now it houses the Velikosorochinskaya boarding school of a sanatorium type. There is a Museum of Spirituality at the school.
