Description of the attraction

In the northern part of Greece (Western Macedonia), on a small peninsula jutting into Lake Orestiada (Lake Kastor), which is rightfully considered one of the most picturesque Balkan lakes, the city of Kastoria is located. The delightful landscapes of these places, ancient Byzantine temples, interesting museums and, of course, shopping attract many tourists here every year.

One of the main attractions of the city is the small but very interesting Museum of Monuments of Kastoria. The museum is located on the first floor of a residential building located on the shores of Lake Kastor. The founder of the museum was Nikos Pistikos. Over the years, he spent all his free time to recreate in his works the most interesting historical and architectural monuments of Kastoria and its environs, while preserving as much as possible the original proportions and the smallest details.

Long and painstaking work was crowned with success and in 1991 the stunning models of Nikos Pistikos were presented to the general public for the first time. Today, in the Museum of Monuments, you can admire beautifully made copies of old houses, ancient Byzantine churches and monasteries, as well as colorful stained glass windows typical for the interior of the old town houses. Of particular interest are the model of the entire city of Kastoria and the reconstruction of the Neolithic settlement of Displio.

In his models, Nikos Pistikos, with incredible accuracy, managed to display the features of the architecture traditional for these places and the undoubted elegance of the temple architecture of the Byzantine era.
