Description of the attraction

The Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker at the Patriarch's courtyard is one of the iconic sights of the city of Yekaterinburg. The temple in the pseudo-Russian style was erected in 2002-2003.

The Patriarchal Courtyard is part of the complex that includes the Chapel of Elizabeth Feodorovna and the Church on the Blood. The groundbreaking ceremony of the complex took place in November 2002. The beginning of the construction of the Patriarchal courtyard was blessed by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia. The construction was planned next to the All-Russian and Pan-Orthodox shrine - the Temple-Monument on Blood in the Name of All Saints Who Shone in the Russian Land, which is being erected on the site of the death of the royal family.

In June 2003, the ceremony of consecration of the domes and crosses of the temple was held, which was conducted by Archbishop Vikentiy of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye.

The erected building consists of a huge spiritual and educational complex with a library, video and lecture halls. On the first floor of the so-called "Patriarchal Compound" there is a functioning church in honor of the heavenly patron saint of Tsar Nicholas II - St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The church is part of a complex adjacent to the temple on the west side. The quadruple of the main volume is crowned with a five-domed on light cylindrical drums. On the east side, the church is adjoined by a semicircular altar apse. The main decoration of the facades is beautiful arches.

The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is painted in the Old Russian style. The famous Ural icon painters from the workshop of T. F. Vodicheva were engaged in painting the walls and domes. In the church iconostasis on the left side of the royal gates there is a myrrh-streaming image of the Holy Royal Passion-bearers.
