Not far from Sukhumi and Gagra there is a cozy resort town called Gudauta, where a significant number of tourists come every year for a relaxing beach holiday. Getting to Gudauta is not a problem with proper travel planning and early booking of tickets.
How to get to Gudauta by plane
The most convenient option is a flight to Adler airport. The following carriers offer tickets for such flights: S7; Red Wings; Vim Avia; "Victory". Direct flights are carried out from the Russian capital at any time of the year. At the same time, you will spend 2 hours and 20 minutes in flight, which is quite convenient. Tickets, the cost of which varies from 4800 to 5900 thousand rubles, it is better to book in advance, having previously specified their availability with the tour operator.
Saratov Airlines offers a direct flight from St. Petersburg for about 3 hours. In other cases, you will have to fly with a transfer in Moscow.
Also, without stopping on the way, you can fly to Adler from such large Russian cities as Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg. It is more difficult to fly to Adler from other Russian settlements due to the greater number of transfers, the duration of the flight and the high cost of tickets. When you arrive at Adler airport, keep in mind that the distance from this city to your final destination is 67 kilometers. You can overcome them without any problems by taxi, intercity bus, train or commuter train.

Traveling by rail has a number of advantages:

- you can choose from three classes of tickets, including reserved seat, luxury and coupe;
- the train goes directly to the main railway station of Gudauta.
If you decide to go to Gudauta by train, then be prepared for a long journey. Estimated travel time is 1 day and 12 hours. The train passes through Voronezh, so its residents prefer to get to the resort area by taking the Moscow-Sukhumi train.
There is also an option to travel from St. Petersburg by train, but with a change in Moscow. This point should be taken into account due to the fact that at the Moscow railway station you will have to wait from 1 hour to 8 hours.

By car
Motorists, as a rule, choose a car as their transportation. Such a trip is optimal for those who are ready to spend about a day on the road and spend an impressive amount on gasoline. The starting point of departure is Moscow or St. Petersburg. Departing from the Russian capital, you will take the M 4 highway, after which you will cross Sochi and Adler.
Next, you will drive up to the village of Vesely, where the border checkpoint is located. During the high summer season, a significant number of cars accumulate at the border, so be prepared for a long wait.
After passing the border, you should put the car on temporary registration, and then keep to the southeast highway. Separately, it should be noted that the road from the village of Vesely to Gudauta is straight, and you do not need to turn off to other highways.
After driving 65 kilometers along a flat highway, you will see the suburban buildings of Gudauta, and then drive up to the fork with the sign "Lykhny". At this point you need to turn left and continue on your way.

Going on a trip by car, do not forget to take into account some of the nuances:
- unpaid fines in Russia may be the reason why you will not be allowed across the border;
- the Russian policy for the car will not be valid on the territory of Abkhazia, so the customs officers will offer you to issue a new one;
- medical insurance is required when crossing the border;
- be sure to prepare all documents for the vehicle.
Russian citizens do not need a visa and a passport to enter Abkhazia.
