Before you start exploring the city, you should take into account that the districts of Alicante conditionally divide it into several parts.
District names and descriptions
- Historical center: tourists will be interested in Santa Barbara Castle (you can climb to the top of the mountain where the castle is located on foot along special paths or by high-speed elevator; entrance to the castle is free, and you can get from the tunnel to the castle by elevator for 2.5 euros; viewing platforms are created so that those who wish can admire the bay, the port and the city as a whole; the exposition of the local museum will introduce avant-garde painting, graphics, works of modern art), the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (it is crowned with a 45-meter dome; marble and tiles of different colors; the relics of Saints Roch and Felicita are kept here), the Basilica of Saint Mary (Gothic style; inside you can admire the sculptures of Saints John and Mary, and a gilded Rococo altar of the 18th century). In this area, the Santa Cruz quarter stands out - a walk through it will take tourists to the 13th century: this place has preserved a lot from those times - narrow streets, houses drowning in flowering plants, balconies and windows, the decor of which is made in the Moorish style (this beauty should be immortalized in the photographs).
- Beach area: will delight guests with the beaches of San Juan (conditions for water sports are created; for children there are play areas with swings, slides, houses; in the evening you can spend time in beach bars) and Postiguet (has areas for playing beach volleyball; in June San Juan is celebrated on the beach - guests will be able to take part in competitions, see fireworks and laser shows).
Alicante landmarks
For convenience, it is better to take a tourist card with you for a walk around the sights - so, you will walk along the Explanada d'Espanya embankment (it is worth getting Spanish souvenirs in local shops, and on summer evenings to attend free concerts held in an open pavilion), visit the Museum fine arts (the exposition will introduce Alicante sculpture and painting of the 16-20 centuries), Canalejas parks (the walk will be accompanied by an inspection of century-old trees, decorative fountains and a monument to Carlos Arniches) and Lo Morant (has a snack bar, a small lake, an amphitheater, which is a venue for festive and cultural events; the recreation area is designed for games of checkers and chess, and the sports area is for bowling and petanque; those wishing to go rollerblading and ice skating can do it on special grounds).
Where to stay for tourists
There are many affordable hotels in the center of Alicante (Tryp Alicante Gran Sol Hotel is a good option). In the immediate vicinity of the center you can stay at the “Explanada Hotel”.
Do you plan to stay in comfortable hotels near the coastline? Look for accommodation close to Postiguet Beach (“Europa House Loft”).
