The rivers of Honduras are mostly mountainous. And the list of the largest rivers in the entire republic is being opened - Patuka, Ulua and Aguan.

Aguan River

The river passes through the territories of northern Honduras, starting in the Yoro department. Then he goes on a journey, choosing an eastern direction, crossing the lands of the department of Colon. And the journey ends by flowing into the waters of the Caribbean Sea (near Santa Rosa de Aguán). The total length of the current reaches almost four hundred kilometers. Aguana has several tributaries.

The river valley is actively used in agriculture. In the valley in the upper / middle reaches, there are vegetable fields, as well as corn and bean plantations. The valley of the lower reaches is given over to rice and citrus fruits. Oil palm and sycamore are also grown here.

Riu-Sumpul river

Rio Sumpul makes its way through the lands of two states at once - El Salvador (its northwestern part) and Honduras (southwestern territories). The river is very short - only seventy-seven kilometers - and along its entire length it serves as a border dividing the territories of these states.

The source of the Rio Simpul is located in El Salvador. There the river crosses several municipalities (all of them are located in one department - Chalatenango). It flows into the waters of the Rio Lempa.

Rio Torola river

Rio Torola passes through Central America, flowing through the lands of El Salvador (northeast) and Honduras (southern part of the republic). The total duration of the Rio Torola is a little over one hundred kilometers. The river takes its origin in the territory of Salvador at the place where the Lahitas river merges with the Mansukupagua stream. The mouth of the Rio Torola is the waters of the Rio Lempa.

Ulua river

The river bed cuts through the territory of Honduras in its northern part, starting on the lands of the department of Intibuca (not far from La Paz, the slopes of the Cordillera de Mentesillos mountains). The total length of the current is 358 kilometers with a total catchment area of almost twenty-three thousand squares.

The river is formed by the confluence of the Sasagua and Puringla rivers. Upstream it is known as the Rio Grande de Otoro. Initially, the river rushes northward, crossing Santa Barbara in transit, but after that Ulua turns sharply to the west and, bypassing three departments - Yoro, Cortes and Atlantis - completes the path in the waters of the Gulf of Honduras.

Goaskoran river

Goaskoran blazes a trail through the lands of Honduras and El Salvador, crossing countries in the southern part. The length of the current is about one hundred and thirty kilometers with a catchment area of two thousand six hundred and sixty-three square kilometers.

The last eighteen kilometers of the current is the natural border between the two states. Goaskoran water is a source of drinking water for the residents of the country living on its shores.
